On a normal day, you would be in a position to ask yourself, “who needs insurance?” Insurance just happens to be one of those things you pay for, and only need after something bad has happened. It's just like a fire extinguisher. You don't use it unless there's a fire. In the meantime, you hope that a fire doesn't happen, and you don't ever use the fire extinguisher. An individual accident insurance policy is only used after a personal accident. And like a fire extinguisher, you try to get the most coverage for the most you can afford.
Simply put, accident insurance covers costs from an accident. For life insurance, there are riders for personal accident insurance also called double indemnity, for death due to an accident. Personal accident insurance, pays for hospitalization and associated costs after an accident. It also has benefits for accidental death and dismemberment. The dismemberment benefits also follow standard tables for benefits. All in all, the benefits of having your own accident insurance coverage, on top of any company policy, are worth the extra cost. |

My divorce just got final. I have visitation rights to my two sons, aged 10 and 8. My ex-wife has legal custody of the children. All of us have passports. We got them during a happier time. That was five years ago when the children were 5 and 3 years old. We got our passports when all of us went to the Philippines to visit my ex wife's grandparents. We had a wonderful time there. After that visit, my ex wife and children had visited the Philippines again two years in a row. Now I am worried that my ex wife will bring the children there again and not come back. Who gets to hold the passports for children of divorced parents? I only have my own passport. My wife has our children&rsquos passports. My ex wife had often talked about moving to the Philippines because she thinks our children would benefit from the climate there. Our sons are both asthmatics, something they inherited from my ex wife&rsquos grandmother who is also an asthmatic. Is there something I can do to prevent this? |
